1. Scholars have suggested that the best way to control the impact of the media in our lives is to develop high levels of media literacy — an understanding of what the media are, how they operate, what messages they are delivering, what roles they play in society and how audience members respond to these messages. Summarize the four basic dimensions of media literacy and elaborate on one of these dimensions, using examples from your personal experience.
2. Media effects can be examined in terms of a number of theoretical approaches. Summarize the approaches outlined by Hanson and elaborate on three of these theories using examples from your personal experience.
