Reminder of the BOPPP Framework

Page history last edited by Lorene Shyba 14 years, 3 months ago

This is my favoured "BOPPP" structure as an utilization of the methodology of Interpretive Inquiry.

The framework:

"Bridgein"

As a bridge into your paper, summarize the author's background in a few sentences plus an inkling of what connects this author to your interests, ie basis of your interest in this topic, or highlights of literary references points and citations.

"Objective"

Summarize the "gist" of the article ie, the author's intentions.

"Pre Test" Iterate a main question and few of the secondary questions that you will unpack. (I call this "pretest" because it is pedagogically effective to phrase a series of topic as questions that are poised to draw out new interpretations.)

"Participatory (Un)Packing"

This should be a series of logically connected subsections, paragraphs and arguments . Please select those ideas, points, and facts that are relevant to the questions identified in the "Pretest" sections and unpack them to form a logical argument. You need to give this a good deal of thought.

"Post Test"

This Conclusion should refer back to the original question, and it should summarize your main finding. Ideally it should also add some additional thoughts that come from the collation of ideas. Please, also suggest the sort of research that would allow a fuller answer to the essay question -- perhaps something you might tackle at a later date.
