Course Objectives
Key concepts and theories will be discussed though case studies from particular historical periods. Being an inquiry-based course, among the research questions and topics we can explore are:
- What is the foundational role of ritual, play and multimodality?
- How do videogames function both structurally and aesthetically?
- How can we make the most of various game engines?
- How does knowledge of history and genre of games relate to modern game design, including Action Games of the 70s, Fiction and Adventure videogames of the 1980s, and 3-D videogames of the 1990s?
- What are the social, educative, and training implications of serious games?
- How can we move from game design to game development?
Thank you for taking this class and I look forward to working with you!
